I started creating this piece about a month before giving birth and completed it right around my son’s second birthday. It is an index of my journey as a mother, my attempt to capture the unique collision of emotions and experiences that have expanded my capacity as a human being in so many ways that I never would have expected. Its frenetic energy points to how overwhelming the experience can be, as well as the incredible tension between personal (inner) and political (outer) that inhabiting motherhood in a patriarchal culture produces.
