Inspired by rangoli, a South Asian folk art created by women that consists of designs drawn on the floor with colored sand during religious festivals, this sculpture is a floor drawing created from an ever-evolving collection of materials. When the piece is exhibited, the “drawing” is created intuitively to reflect the phase of the moon, and ceremonially “redrawn” periodically as the moon phase changes throughout the course of the exhibition, connecting the piece to nature, the cosmos, and the cyclical passage of time.
